There are several different ways people with diabetes can manage their food intake to keep their blood glucose (sugar) within their target range and one such method is 'carbohydrate counting'. Carbohydrate or carb counting is a method of calculating grams of carbohydrate consumed at meals and snacks. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Determine the foods containing carb that have the greatest effect on blood glucose compared to foods that contain protein or fat.
- Increase the awareness for the need to use the diet to control blood sugar.
- Discuss the lifestyle risk factors that affect diabetes.
- Adapt the knowledge in pattern management and how to use insulin-to-carbohydrate ratios.
Demonstrate the deeper insights of the importance of carb counting for people with diabetes, how to use it, to cover critical updates on management of diabetes by using carb counting, as well as some of the special aspects associated with it.
