Nutrition counseling is an ongoing process in which dietitians, work with an individual to assess his or her usual dietary intake and identify areas where change is needed. The nutrition counselor provides information, educational materials, support, and follow-up to help the individual make and maintain the needed dietary changes.
The goal of nutrition counseling is to help a person make and maintain dietary changes. The nutrition counselor and individual work together to assess current eating patterns and identify areas where change is needed. Dietitians have met certain education requirements and have a certain level of experience and are well qualified to provide nutrition counseling. Nutrition counseling usually begins with an interview in which the counselor asks questions about a person's typical food intake. Nutrition counselors use different methods to assess typical food intake.
The participants who attended the workshop came from different gulf countries these are Kuwait, Qatar and The United Arab Emirates. Those who came from Kuwait work in the Ministry of Health and their positions are head of nutrition education and nutrition education staff. Delegates from UAE are from Zayed Military Hospital, Tawam Hospital and Health Sports Medical Center – Al Ain. They work positions in these hospitals are supervisory dieticians and clinical dieticians.
