Neurodevelopment in children consists of several interdependent domains including cognition, sensory-motor and social-emotional. The first 1000 days of life are particularly important because vital development occurs in all neuro-domains. The development of these domains is affected by psychosocial, biological, nutritional and environmental factors, and by genetic inheritance. To a great extent, the early detection and intervention of disturbances in the development of these domains could circumvent unfavorable consequences allowing children to develop optimally and fulfill their potential.
