Cervical cancer is preventable disease. The cause of cervical cancer is the infection with high grade human papilloma virus (HPV). Prevention can be accomplished through increase awareness of the general population, family medicine physicians, and the gynecologists. The other well established method of prevention of cervical cancer is screening for cervix cancer (Pap smear). Proper implementation of screening can decrease the incidence and mortality from cervical cancer. Recently, HPV vaccine has been introduce as another major tool for prevention of such disease.
